Protesters Demand Opening of More City Pools in Philadelphia
by KYW's Mike Dunn
Community activists who have been upset with the number of city pools open this summer in Philadelphia brought their protest to City Hall on Tuesday.
Chanting "Open the pools," about thirty demonstrators gathered at the northeast corner of City Hall to protest the mayor's decision to open only 46 of the city's more than 70 municipal pools. They wanted all of the pools open, and they believe that the mayor could have afforded to do so.
One of the activists involved was the Rev. Jesse Brown:
"For the pools to be closed means that some neighborhood is getting gypped out of the ability to have their kids have some place to go that's safe."
