Philly Fourth Festivities “Pop” Off
Philadelphia launched Independence Weekend with a free concert by Peter Nero and the Philly Pops in front of Independence Hall.

Several thousand people lounged on the Mall to listen to selections from American composers, including Gershwin, Gould and Glen Miller. Tenor Cody Austin began the concert with a stunning, operatic rendition of the Star Spangled banner.
More concerts are planned throughout the weekend, including Fourth of July performances by the Goo Goo Dolls and Philly favorites the Roots, along with fireworks and other activities.
“It feels more patriotic being here in Philadelphia,” said one visitor from Chicago.
